The thoughts that God has for us are not thoughts of evil, but of good (Jer 29:110 which include divine protection and preservation.
Our world is filled with evil, fear, pestilence, and all sorts of dangers, to name a few. In this fallen reality, Psalm 91 offers a profound and timeless message of comfort, protection, and trust in God.
At the heart of Psalm 91 is a powerful affirmation: those who place their trust in God will find a refuge and fortress in Him. This is not a promise of a life free from danger or trouble, but a assurance that in the midst of it, He is there with us. For He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb 13:5; Deut 31:8; Isa 43:1-2).
There are many ways in which God protects and preserves us:
- Through the blood of Jesus (Exodus 12:13; Revelation 12:11)
- Through His name (Proverbs 18:10)
- Through His angels (Psalm 91:11-12)
- Through elements of nature, such as mountains, fire, and clouds (Psalm 125:1-2)
- By turning the plans of our adversaries back upon them. For example, those who set a trap will fall into it themselves (Psalm 141:10).
- Supernaturally, through miracles like parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:29)
- Through guiding presences in nature, like the Pillars of Cloud and Fire (Exodus 13:22)
- Through the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth (John 14:26)
- Through God Himself, who is our ultimate refuge (Psalm 91:4)
